My New Cell Phone Arrived Today

Fed Ex delivered my new cell phone today.  I have been using an older type phone... just one that I could use as a phone and text.  Simple and uncomplicated (are these 2 words one and the same?) I just wanted one with a keyboard.  I liked the old one... it was small and easy to use.  I like 'point and shoot' cameras also .... for the same reason.. easy to use.  I'm usually in a hurry and don't want to have to change settings frequently.  Of course, by not doing it frequently, I forget what is required to change a setting.  Then I get frustrated.

I've spent half the day figuring out how to use this phone.  I can use it, I think ... but not anywhere close to mastering it.  I may never be.  The young people can manipulate this electronic stuff with ease.  I marvel at their expertise.  I can't keep up with all the new things available.  About the time I master one and consider it my friend, it's out of date and replaced with 'new and better'.

I like all the things that make life easier.  I remember looking for a pay phone when traveling to a new place.  In older movies, there are times when I think, "if you just had your cell phone".  Now, a phone is tethered to the person... no possibility of leaving home without it.  I think I've gotten used to seeing persons with, phone in hand, carrying on business or friendly chat as they walk or shop.  They don't know exactly what they are doing, but they can walk and talk at the same time.  I just don't feel comfortable talking about anything for everyone around me to hear.  And some consider it rude anyway.

All in all,  I think I've gotten used to hearing conversation and not turning to see who is calling.  I just have not completely gotten used to the idea we are to be available at all times.  Spoiled by all these electronics?   Well... yes.  But it's easy to do.  I carry mine all the time too... you know we all have responsibilities and want to be handy when our kids call, or business, or just friends, or emergencies ... it's nice to have it handy.   I carry mine... I just don't use it unless I need to and I don't use it while driving except to answer and I make it quick.  But then.... I never was a 'phone person' anyway.

With this new phone and with all the gadgets/niceties,... I just may get used to this!  Taking pictures, checking email, googling, I don't even know what all I have... yet.  But I just may get used to it...
